Christmas tour in Tallinn's Old Town "How did Estonian Christmas traditions survive the Soviet era?"
During the Soviet era, Christmas was replaced by Christmas Eve, where Santa distributed gifts. Nevertheless, Christmas was celebrated secretly in Estonia. During the tour, we will explore the Christmas card traditions of the 70s and 80s and what happened when cards did not meet the expectations of the Soviet authorities. We will see the Christmas tree in the Town Hall Square and discuss going to church during the holidays. We will explore how schools helped preserve Christmas traditions and what role official Christmas Eve celebrations played!
