EuroVelo Cycling Route 11
From coastal roads to forested hills, this bike tour will give you a good overview of how diverse the different regions of Estonia are.
The highlight of EuroVelo Route 11 is the scenery of South Estonia.
EuroVelo 11, the East Europe Route, follows Estonia's National Cycling Route 3 from Valga at the border with Latvia to Tartu, Route 4 until Rakvere, and then Route 1 until Tallinn.
A cycling tour on this route will allow you to discover one of the country's best cycling regions, South Estonia, where you'll find a delightfully hilly landscape with plenty of lakes and winding roads. You can bike through forests for long distances and enjoy the expanse of the countryside from up on the hills. It's also easy to take a detour and explore exciting off-road trails.
EuroVelo Routes 10 & 13 cover the same coastal roads as EuroVelo 11 does east of Tallinn.
Section #1
From Valga to Tartu is arguably the most scenic section of the route.
The route follows the Latvian border and then passes through the Haanja Uplands, Setomaa, Räpina, and Ahja (242 km). In this section, you'll mostly be driving on low-traffic roads, but there are also some stretches of cycle paths. There are about 10 km of gravel roads in Paganamaa and the same between Haanja and Vastseliina.
You'll visit some of the most beautiful places in South Estonia, from the highest hills to the most breathtaking lakes. Võrumaa and Setomaa are also known for their rich regional cultures.
Section #2
From Tartu, the route passes through Vooremaa, the Pandivere Upland, and Rakvere before reaching the northern coast of Estonia in Vihula (201 km). The road conditions between Tartu and Vihula tend to vary quite a lot. There are almost 40 kilometers of cycle paths available near Tartu, in Jõgeva, Rakvere, and Haljala.
On some stretches, you will also have to cycle along main roads with satisfactory traffic conditions, but the route will mainly run on smaller paved roads with low traffic. There are no gravel roads in this section. There is also a lot of beautiful nature along this part of the route, especially in Vooremaa.

Section #3
From Vihula to Tallinn, EuroVelo 11 aligns with EuroVelo Routes 10 and 13. On the last leg of the route, you'll mainly be cycling on paved roads with moderate traffic. Cycle paths lead up to Maardu, with shorter sections to follow.
The route consists mainly of paved roads with moderate traffic. The highlights of this section are Jägala Waterfall, the beautiful North Coast, and Lahemaa National Park and its historic manor houses. A detour to the fishing village of Käsmu is also definitely worth taking.
